Andrea Brown commented on Organ Pipe National Monument

We just had the brief drive through on our way to Mexico but I thought this area was enchanting.

Amazing cacti pics! They look quite alien.

Thanks for adding the link. I remember when you took this ride, and the ones from the following two days. It sounds like it was just as quiet when you were there. Quite an exceptional place.

Nice photos. Glad you enjoyed your drive on the Mt Ajo loop. If anyone is interested, I pedaled that loop two years ago:

Certainly not! I’m much too self-disciplined to indulge myself like that.

Such a charitable thing to say, Bruce. I doubt it though. I really can’t imagine anyone else making this mistake. Rachael, less charitably, pointed out the fullness fractions on the fuel indicator that I could have cued off of.

Sweet! Mammillaria are so cute! Might be the same fishhook cactus species you photographed for me earlier.

No, not yet at least.

But I would if I were touring car-based. I haven’t taken a backpack on a bike tour yet; we were planning to do some hiking in the Dolomites on the trip that got cancelled but hadn’t got far enough in our planning to decide whether we’d take actual backpacks or the converter gizmos we have for our panniers. And for only two to four days of hiking in 8 weeks, I doubt poles would make the cut. We were going to bring actual walking shoes, though.

Do you carry them when you’re on bicycle tour also?

Having acquired hiking poles, I always carry them now. Better to have them with me when I need them. And then I use both. If I need to use my hands, I stow the poles.

I've also mistaken the temperature gauge for the fuel gauge. Such a rude surprise to find that you are not getting 225 mpg.

Oh yeah, looks all healed and ready for a long ride!! You're not going to get any 'likes' for this shot. My toe hurts just from glancing at this.

Ahhh! This looks so awful! I'm so sorry! Will this increase your wine or beer consumption temporarily? It would mine.
