I don't think this is a native tree. It looked a bit like an oak. The plants at the bottom are bromiliads.

Wow that$51.50 tent site is unbelievable. I thought parts of Byron Bay had washed away in recent tide/storm surges? Looks like you had some nice sand to walk on if nothing else
