I was afraid of Chuckanut Drive too, until I rode it a couple of years ago. I rode as far as Larrabee State Park on a Friday in early May (I remember wondering how much further it would be and whether I'd run out of daylight). On the Saturday morning, after breakfasting and breaking camp, I continued on my way to Anacortes. The other person in the hiker/biker section (also a solo woman cycle tourer!) left earlier, saying there was a great place for breakfast in Edison.

I found the road very pleasant to ride--but that probably had a lot to do with timing!

I'd heard of them, but never seen one even in a picture...until now!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the ODT! The trail is truly wonderful (aside from the short section which was truly rough!) and we loved it too. Great photos and video! Much fun following you, Lise

He appears to be singing a song ..

"Oh I'm glad to live in the land of otters, where cyclists gaze on my clear blue waters ..."

You made me look it up!

From Wikipedia: "The name comes from a local Native American language, meaning 'hard to pole', referring to the difficulty local Native Americans had poling their canoes along the Humptulips River.[5] According to other sources the word means 'chilly region'."

I vote for 'hard to pole'.

You’re right! I hadn’t considered color coordinating my props before. I’ll have to pul in a redhead when we pass a madrona one of these times.

Good thing you met up .. the color of Rachael's shirt looks so nice next to the tree! And her tiny-ness makes the huge-ness of the tree even more impressive!

Nice to hear that you will soon be back in the Old Country! Your travels in North America are impressive, but somehow I am biased to European cycling.

I love the front yard of this lodge. I stayed here with my sister years ago and it remains a fond memory for both of us.

Looks like a few species are native to eastern North America, but not the west.
