Brent, if that’s chaos, I don’t know how you’d describe a hotel room shortly after we’ve arrived—especially if it’s been raining.

Thank you! My brain is ready to go so it would be disappointing to get a negative result. I do have a contingency - slightly later on is a backup tour to Spain. Flights and accommodations booked and ready to go. Whichever the result on Tuesday, I have a tour to do some day and a bunch of stuff to cancel right away.

Good luck! I understand the anxiety of waiting for your result. We had the same fear on our flight to Croatia last year. We didn’t really know until the last minute if the trip was on or not.

Oh, Dodie pointed out you already have the high vis vest in the list! Otherwise I was looking at one of those with 16 flashing LEDs you might consider. Dodie has one and thinks it's great. I like it because it is one more electronic gadget!

That is a very good point. I suppose one of those safety vests would be wise.

Lots of black in that clothing. How about some fluorescent yellow for visibility? Also yellow is the new stylish black!

The EV1 route north of Lisbon is nice but more touristy whereas from Lisbon south to Lagos is less so and is spectacular. N2 is apparently not touristy and very 'real' ... this is what appeals to me about this route.

From what I have read, this highway never really got used much for regular vehicular use so in terms of how busy it is - it is not busy at all, yet is well-surfaced. Depending on your daily distances there could be some slightly longer days but if you go 50 to 60ish km/day I think that worksnin terms of accommodations. Going north to south, the route is hillier to start, then seems to be less so after the Douro.

Getting to Chaves can be done by bus from Lisbpn or Porto with Rede Expressos who do take boxed or wrapped bikes and rates are very cheap. The Lisbon-Chaves bus is about 6 hours. There is an IC train from Faro station to Lisbon which takes assembled bikes and takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Hey, we are thinking about Spain and Portugal as well. We would start in February. EV1, on the Portugese Atlantic coast figured in the plan, but we have noticed N2 as well. Do you have any info on how bike friendly N2 may be?
