Wonderful. I remember hearing her perform this, at Aladdin or Albert Rose.

Marianne Moore! There’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. I looked up the poem to read the whole thing, but I see this is it. Almost a haiku.
2 years agoI’m no connoisseur of course but it’s all working well for me. I especially like the variety available. This project could continue a long time.
2 years agoSaw this on my social media feed right after I finished reading this post:
I May, I Might, I Must
by Marianne Moore
If you will tell me why the fen
appears impassable, I then
will tell you why I think that I
can get across it if I try.
Good question! I found several articles on the topic, and they were consistent - there’s no more chance of fires with thatched roof than other flammable materials - but when they do burn they generate more attention because they’re spectacular.
2 years agoHow does the beer compare? Only briefly been in the UK, so not much time to do research.
2 years agoWhat a good catch for a picture! I wonder how fire safe that type of roof is?
2 years agoEel-y, accent on the first. I’ll have more to say later, but before the fens were drained four hundred years ago Ely was an island accessible only by boat, the highest ground in a swampy waterland brimming with eels. There are different opinions but many say that the name came from an old English word for the Isle of Eels. There’s an annual Eel Day celebration held in May, complete with an eel throwing competition (though they no longer use live eels).

2 years agoOne more... is that the brew that is spiced with fennel? Okay, I'm all finished now.
Unless I think of some more.
I'm not sure there's any defense against that sort of punishment.
2 years agoIs it pronounced “eel-y” or “ee-lie”?

These are a first for me, too!
