Magical is the word for it, alright. I was hoping for something grand, but this has been off the charts.

Yes, but were there sheep?

Now something like that never occurred to me. I assumed it was a directional indicator of some sort. So is there a register of these way markers that documents the elevation?

Also, any knowledge as to why some of these have a small hole at the top?

Pretty lucky. On most ordinary days this would be the highlight, but I almost forgot. I was lucky to get off a focused shot before he disappeared.

Finally, a live snake! Never seen one in person, but I recognized it immediately.

Thanks for this interesting information. I never thought about the literal meaning of benchmark.

Incredible scenery. I have not thought about a Uk tour but following along with you is having me rethinking. One more route for the list.
Your photos and videos are terrific, thanks for sharing.

Keep riding around up and around there and you'll have muscles like sparrow's kneecaps!

Reminds me a bit of my ride last year on the GDMBR in Wyoming’s Great Basin

It's a bench mark. Pre-digital mapping the height to the horizontal line was measured accurately by the Ordnance Survey.

But the US coins are the best. After living abroad for 60 years I can stil recognize them easily. I don't know about the UK coins, but the Euro coins are a catastrophe. I still can't tell them apart!

Apologies to you! I can sure see why they would fly under anyone’s radar though. I had just never thought about it. We enjoy them because Canada wins something once in awhile, although Australia is always king of the mountain in the Games!

I was confused (was it old age?) but I think this should be page 34
