Oh. You’re right, and I’m mixing up train journeys. There was no charge for the bikes. At about the same time as this I booked a train journey in France, which charges 10 euros/bike if you’re reserving space on the TGV (regionals are free). Thanks for catching that.

Congratulations on making it work! Sounded like a lot of stress getting that far.

Just don't run the sailboat aground on the pillows.

"Converted" to multi use? Sounds like it already *is*... 😀

About not carrying them over the gap and gashing my ankle? Nope.

That's where we took the bikes...

Don't you have any regrets?

How odd: I've never come across this before (and their website still says that reservations are free). Maybe it's a post-pandemic thing? I hope you didn't fall victim to a Bike Reservation Ticket Scammer (which would be quite a niche scamming operation, to be fair...)

Yup. They’re not free on the TfW lines if you want a reserved space. To me it looks like we could have just showed up and rolled them on though, as another biker did.

Did you really pay ten pounds? Bike reservations are supposed to be free!

We’re the same. Two is a pretty great number of pillows in our book. The photo doesn’t show it but the tub is filled with ten pillows and the panniers.

For us it would be an inverse scale, that is, more pillows equals a lower score. Thus, a 12 pillow loaded bed would yield a dismal score since it would immediately require removal of 10 of the pillows never to be placed back on the bed again. But that is just us maybe.

It does have that look alright.

That hill looks like it might've been the inspiration for Hobbiton Hill in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

In fact you can (though usually from a little further south) -- but you need to take a guide (who used to be appointed by the Queen/Duke of Lancaster; she's now delegated the job to a charity: https://www.guideoversands.co.uk/ )

That’s a funny accident I didn’t see. Both were correct.
