It sure was an interesting day. I'm very grateful for the volunteers all along the canal who donate their time and effort to keep the history alive.

I'm not sure Granddad would have approved. I'm sure navy men prefer goats to mules.

Glad you enjoy history. Every time I hear a park ranger telling stories, it brings back memories of being at great national parks and monuments. It must be the ranger hats that do it.
We are sorry we didn't think to take a picture of the wonderful ranger today.

Michael,
Your comment about Cortland apples reminds me of a question Jeanna has been wondering about. Do Rome apples take their name from Rome NY?
We could probably look it up online, but we've been hoping to run across someone who knows. Even virtually running across you would count ;-)

Amazing how close you came to another of my old stomping grounds, Cortland, NY. My step-daughter attended State university of New York at Cortland. I used to go up there from Baltimore every Fall for Parents' Weekend. Cortland apples are the best eating and cooking apples I have ever had.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, no longer used commercially, has parts restored with canal boats for tourist trips. These boats are mule-drawn, as were the originals. mario and I belong to a volunteer organization that, among other things, donated a mule to the C&O Canal.

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear.
Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.
Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't fuzzy, was he?

Wooly bear! Loved finding them as far back as I can remember... 2 or 3 years old. About 70 years back.

I don't have any idea what they are. I saw some white ones today, I think.

Are they a variety of hibiscus?

It's amazing to me that people can identify a brown lipped snail from a photo that doesn't even show the snail's lips.
