Another oriole, but not quite enough exposed for a good ID
1 year agoLooks like African tulip... highly invasive in Hawaii where my brother lives. He is constantly cutting them from his property.

I know that one... It will only take a minute to find a good internet link for mahogany!

Must be Sheep Egrets then. Maybe they are a specialized subspecies?
1 year agoFinally a new species of dove! This is a Eurasian collared dove, an import. This is the dove species you commonly see throughout Western Europe. Note the black collar on the back of the neck.
1 year agoNice. Almost in synch.
1 year agoThese are so cute! They look like plush toys.

1 year agoNope, Carob beans are shorter and thicker. We had a lot of carob trees along the ASU mall.
1 year agoBougainvillea have hidden thorns, and when they scratch you, it swells up and hurts some. Found out back in January of 1967 when I went to AZ to go to college, and brushed up against one not a week after I arrived.

I kind of favour Suzanne's fogged lens theory. I definitely see that with my sunglasses. I was meaning to ask: Cell phones are escalating their prices over $1000 based it seems on camera improvements. But all that must mostly be in software. Do you think, as you say, that the Panasonic is also pondering the shot? But presumably it would not be trying stunts like making multiple exposures and studying them, ex post sharpening, or whatever. What do those Google Pixel phones actually do?
1 year agoSo it will change into a beetle? What does their process look like? The one in the reference was from Wisconsin. This tropical one is sure to be quite exotic.
1 year agoGiven the extent to which we are circling back and around this peninsula, I could well get another shot. But hard to guarantee the same individual!
1 year agoGolly, there are so many Lantanas!

Best I can say is family Asteraceae... Looks fairly closely related to sunflowers.
