Have you been here too? I think this is new just this year.

I don't remember those! New in the past several years?

Keith Adams commented on To Boise: the endless drive

"why do the ACA routes spend so much time on highways, anyway? ... I’ve mapped us on the south bank along Lakeshore Drive. It looks good on paper, but when we get there it’s narrow, completely shoulderless, twisting, and ... [t]his all feels precarious..."

Thereby answering your own question. It's my understanding that ACA does a great deal of recon and field research, choosing the best - or, sometimes, the least worst - of the available options.

It really was; and like I said, it’s a ride I’d love to do again some day and keep going. Thanks for encouraging me to do it!

Just love the layers of peaks stacking to the west. You had an exceptional day!

Pelicans are everywhere on the prairies. If there’s fish in the water, there will be pelicans!
Most of my youthful summers were spent on lakes in Sask., and pelicans were ubiquitous. Even with that, I was surprised to see them in Cypress Hills, which is basically on the AB, Sask and Montana border.

Very cool. I've only seen pelicans along the coasts (of the brown variety).

We had a wonderful time at your place and really enjoyed watching the canning session and dinner prep! I was an only child with just my mother so I love seeing a happy family. We would love to meet up again and get a chance to ride with you.

Brown pelicans are coastal, but during breeding season the white ones are a bird of the interior, found starting east of the Cascades. In the winter they migrate south and toward the coast though, and you’ll find them along the California coast.

Pelicans? I didn't know they were also a non-coastal bird. That is, if I've correctly ID'd this bird.

That's so true. I always stash some cash in by seat bag, just in case of emergencies. It's bailed me out on more than one occasion!

That's good to hear. You Americans must come to the Dark Side of the metric system....Mwaa ha ha ha. Slovenia has been really nice the last few days. Too bad our trip is winding down. We fly back on the 11th.
