My brother lives in Krestova, uphill of where you rode on Pass Creek Road, so I asked him. It follows Goose Creek (more or less) at the north end, but down by Castlegar, it follows Pass Creek for a bit, hence the name. For the locals in Crescent Valley/Krestova, it’s an alternate route to Castlegar.

It’s funny. When I first saw this critter I thought the white spot was a blemish of some sort, not an identifying characteristic.

There was so much game and fish in the PNW when they were younger rhat they probably didn’t think much about it. This was really Ma and Pa Kettle country back then. Saves on buckshot.
