How awful! I better keep my weight down so I’m easier to evacuate. Also, I’m very careful what trails I hike. I’ve also resorted to sliding on my butif it’s too steep going down.

We were first on the scene of an incident where an obese (380+ pounds, by her own reckoning) woman hiking with her dog on the Appalachian Trail took a bad step and snapped her ankle. We were in Shenandoah National Park so there were rangers and other resources available but they didn't begin to reach the scene for 45 minutes or more after we called 911.

They had to call for a medevac chopper in the end; even withe the 20 or so responders on hand, and the litter they brought, there was no way they could have carried her down.

You sound experienced! I wondered if there wasn't a Type 4. If I'd known, I'd have classified last December that way. Definitely an experience not to be repeated.

Type 4 fun involves search and rescue, ambulances, and/or medevac flights. You do NOT want Type 4 fun, ever. You don't even really want to be party to someone else's Type 4 fun if you have an alternative.

Ha! Nope... Already got too many puzzles (cycle touring nature photos) to get hooked... (I never did get into geocache, or such either) Sounds like it could be fun.

That’s the right idea alrepight. I’m going to get an ID wrist band though, one that also includes emergency medical information - like the fact that I’m on blood thinner that requires an antidote in a bleeding emergency.

A would add a laminated card that shows who to call, if you are found needing help.

I'll be most interested in the development of this chapter. FUN is my #1 rule for bike touring. It might be my only rule. Too many rules make Greg a very dull boy.

Man....you need a list to keep track of all of your lists. Hope they work like a charm. I'm intrigued by this journal.
