I remember a road exactly like this last year. It was so beautiful and low traffic, but when a car did come along there really was no place to go so I know exactly what you mean. In our case as we squeezed up to the plane trees when a car approached there was also a massive root bump in the asphalt. We were grateful for the off season as well.

It was too bad. Also the clock tower, which has some interesting medieval murals inside. Also a vintage bike museum of all things, closed for the winter. Also s smattering of fountains I missed. A reason to come back some year.

It was so thoughtful for him to stroll in front of the fountain for me.

I’m really surprised by what a great stop this town was. interesting village, great cycling, with interesting features everywhere.

Looks like you're onto one of your trademark quests! You better start numbering and cataloguing them!

And a Musee de la Resistance! Too bad it's closed.

My original plan was mid-September to mid-October--so I'd have been returning home next week. I'm thinking October-November for next year, perhaps.

Actually, we’re getting excellent weather - now. We should have just bagged the north and come to Provence a month ago.

Thanks, Scott! Seeing the weather you, the Classens, and the Grampies are experiencing, I'm not too terribly sad about having to postpone. Portugal in November should make up for it.

I wouldn’t use Venasque as a base because it’s too remote and isolated by its geography. It made an attractive destination for a day ride, but I’m not sure I’d even want to overnight there. Pernes is terrific though, with many ride possibilities around.

For the tour I’d originally cooked up for this fall and had to postpone, I was thinking of Venasque as a base for a few nights, to explore a bit of the area. I had also considered Pernes-les-Fontaines. I’ve seen neither and you’ve seen both. Thoughts?
