Thank you, Scott.. how sobering!
The art piece sort of fits this description of what occurred then.
Good climb, Scott! That's not an easy hill to get up on a bike!
2 weeks agoNice shot! I just checked back into my photo library and I took the exact same shot when we visited (by moped) in 1980. The monastery was in much worse shape back then. In my shot, there was still some residual plaster on the walls, but otherwise the tower interior looks pretty much the same! Last time we were there, the monastery was closed, so I'm having a great time comparing your photos to mine to see what's changed in 45 years.
2 weeks agoYou know, Azub makes a recumbent called the Origami that folds and fits conveniently in a Tern Airporter suitcase. I used one for a couple tours in Europe before switching to riding velomobile. Dual 20ā wheels like your Bike Fridays and would entirely take the pressure off Rockyās poor wrists. Just a thought. Sheād probably still shoot rocky darts at you for stiff climbs though.
2 weeks agoYes! Bodies in coffins? What a thing to decorate a doorway! I wonder about their significance.
2 weeks agoI remember anchovies being heavily promoted when we were in Collioure in 1992.
2 weeks agoThe path here was wide enough and not on a rocky trail that slopes steeply down to the water. Iāve done some challenging hikes but this is the worst one. My hike on November was much better!
2 weeks agoBoth memories are pretty clear in my mind still. I didnāt take a photo of the vandalized door before we quickly fled town, but Iāve still got a detailed image of the jagged hole I carved with the lock mechanism exposed.

Thanks. I think I need to replenish my Rocky darts. Iām sure glad I have my GoPro!
2 weeks agoNot from Rachaelās photo, but I found one on the web with a translation:
Soleils Porter: Sculpture by Francesca Caruana.
"In November 1493 the last 39 non-converted (to catholicism) Jews of Roussillon (families all named), pusued/hunted by the inquisition and the king, set sail in the ships Santa Maria and Sant Cristofol.
Thatās a good theory!
2 weeks agoWhat a juxtaposition of colors and shapes!
2 weeks agoAny chance you have a blown up photo of the artwork inscription at the bottom ?
