Looks like a great place to explore by foot!
2 years agoGreat photo. Been there, done that!
2 years agoInteresting concept! You definitely got the US right.
2 years agoI’m impressed you did such a long ride on a chilly, windy day! Glad you found the cafe.
2 years agoExcellent note to self. Advice I should take myself.
2 years agoAgreed yet in Bavaria, if a bike is in the proper bike lane, buses don‘t seem to assume that the cyclist should get out of the way. We live near a reasonably busy intersection and each morning I watch bikes fly down a slight hill, through the intersection and never look at the cars or buses turning right. It caused me great anxiety at first — many were cargo bikes with kids in front — until I saw that the drivers were actually looking at the bike lane occupants. (Maybe I should check accident records on this before basing my actions on observational data only...) In the US this practice would be crazy.
2 years agoLove this! I agree with your pecking order for Bavaria, and if you add public transportation, I would put them before cars, occasionally before bikes. They assume the right-of-way and I give it to them, I'm not going to argue with a bus driver!
2 years agoThat would be great! We are going to be in Italy from April 9 - 18, so let's see if we can get together in those remaining days that you are here.
2 years agoHi Suzanne!
We will definitely be in touch when we return to Munich for Easter week (14 -22 April). I love it that the snail is your mascot — fitting for a bike tourer.
Hi Zelda! Here you have been in Munich all the while and I didn't know it! I hope you get in touch when you are back, I would love to meet you.
Sorry I didn't see your journal sooner. We now live outside of Munich, in Gauting, but all your pictures show our old hunting grounds that I am so fond of. Hope you have a great time in Italy. I'm looking forward to your journal. You can reach me at suzannegibsonatarcordotde.
It looks like the link doesn't work, but the picture is almost the same as yours...

2 years agoThat’s a nice idea. And thank you for your journals — they help motivate us. Have a great time in France and beyond.
2 years agoThis opportunity took a lot to assemble and it has been worth every bit of insanity. One more week and we head south.
Hope you are recovered now and dreaming about France.
I posted (but sheepishly deleted) a comment here bemoaning a lack of photos of you two, since actually there are quite a few in this blog and at least one in the previous blog. And I was wondering about where you are from, but I see now it is Ithaca, New York. That squares with the comment that you could teach in Innsbruck - you must be a teacher at Cornell?
2 years agoMore background, like the history of the beautiful bikes, would make fascinating reading, for me anyway.
