Just found a site that points out that chayote is plump at the bottom, while bladder fruit is plump at the top. This one, and the many others we saw, seems to be plump at the top (the point where it attaches to the stem).

Really tricky. White bladder fruit is also known as false choko, also from the new world, also a vine, not edible, so ??? Can you research a bit more and let us know. We don't have time here on the road.
