Laurie Marczak commented on Day 25: Sevilla

Joni says her favourite part of this story was imaging how hard it must have been for you to pick out just a few tile scenes as evocative of the whole business. We also watched the flamenco video quite a bit - beautiful singing (and dancing of course)!

Who are these impaled babies? Is this the Inquisition in process or a claim or persecution of Christians? Who can keep track….

This is quite possible. I suppose first there would have been a long discussion about whether or not it had a motor. I have only once had an issue with a hotel claiming no place to store a bicycle. This was the Ibis in Bamberg. However, once I informed them I had a reservation already, they relented and magically had a gated area near the trash bins for my bicycle.

We can only imagine the difficulties. On the other hand you might have had better luck trying to convince our annoying hotel manager that your velomobile was not a bike, but rather a weird small car and therefore quite eligible to go into the garage.

Good idea to check in advance. We are right in the old section and it is definitely short on space. However, we saw several hotels with parking garages, and indeed our place did in the end, grudgingly, let us put the bikes in the parking garage, which was just fine.

Try traveling by velomobile. That really complicated finding rooms. Surprisingly only one place I contacted for my summer tour said they didn’t have room. The others all claimed it was no problem, but I suspect a lot of those responses were automated and didn’t involve actual people. If they complain, I will be showing them their responses on booking.com!

Tough day! Thanks for the prompt about the hotel. We first stayed in Seville about 25 years ago, and it’s the only place I ever recall having to change our hotel because they couldn’t find a place for the bikes. I’d better check in on the one we’re staying at next month.

Heavily pruned, so I would guess fruit... Possibly peach?

Seems to fit peaches!

Maybe this is where the Madonna Inn in SLO got the idea?!

This sign is actually lined up so you can read it without squinting.

Re: oranges in text above. The fruit starts to ripen in Dec. and trees flower in Jan. Ripe fruit just hangs on, I do not know how long, but for the whole summer and into fall from what I remember in AZ. That said, it likely depends on the variety.

A schoolmate who did not eat grapefruit invited me to pick some from his tree. It was Dec. and had ripe fruit as well as much larger ripe fruit from the previous season still hanging on! I took some, which were nearly as large as my head and when I opened them, they had germinated seeds with 2 inch roots! The skin had been all that grew, and it was over an inch thick and quite loose surrounding normal sized flesh. The flesh was maybe the best tasting I have ever had.

It really is. We feel like we still have much to see and explore on a future visit, and will hopefully get a chance to do so.

What a beautiful and interesting city.

I have a very pitcher very similar to the ones on the right that I bought in Granada in 1998. It's one of my treasured possessions. But it's true, it's a good thing we travel by bikes or the house would be stuffed with such things.
