I’m sure this was a sublime experience, especially in such a setting. The Plaza de Espana is possibly my favorite public space in Seville. We were lucky enough to see a similar group of street flamenco performers in Granada and it was a real highlight of our visit there. Thanks for reminding me of it.
2 years agoAfter looking at your photo I would still be inclined to say they were Western Cattle Egrets. Apart from the behavioural aspect, I would expect Little Egret to present as longer legged and necked than the ones in your photo.
2 years agoNot cattle egrets I don’t think, but my photo was pretty poor so it’s possible I guess. They look more like little egrets to me: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/andalucia2004/cordoba/#17506_vlui5vu16pf7anj4um5u5ydqo5f
2 years agoWe got there at about two in the afternoon so there only a lonely Little Egret fishing on its own. We have seen a few large flocks of Western Cattle Egrets though and I suspect that may be what you saw coming in to roost (Cattle Egrets being generally more gregarious than Little Egrets).
2 years agoThe first time we saw this bridge there were literally thousands of egrets coming to roost on the downriver side at sunset.
2 years agoIt was an easy decision.
2 years agoThanks for that Scott. I like their sentiments.
2 years agoMuch easier gradients on the N road!
2 years agoIt’s a street art work by a collaboration of a Spanish and Mexican pair: “ Alegria del Prado is a collaboration of two artists – Octavio Alegria from Mexico and Esther del Prado from Spain. They’ve been working together since 2010. In their work they mostly create dream worlds, calling for harmony between nature and modern world. They also paint murals, so that the art can be more directly integrated into everyday life.”
2 years agoMaybe related to Salvador Dali? :-)
2 years agoHey, we must have ridden nearly this exact route back in 2004: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/andalucia2004/alcala-la-real/. Hey, you didn’t happen to see a red pannier by the side of the road did you?
2 years agoYour photos encourage me to go see the Alhambra, but there would be no hope of getting better shots. Well done!
2 years ago38 km to 141 km is a very wrong turn!
2 years agoIt really can get cold there. We were in Alhama de Granada in early November years ago and just about froze.
