We both have phone cameras. Scott's is a Samsung 8+. He has a Lifeproof case which protects it. The plastic lens cover is rather scratched and often dirty. But it does a decent job nonetheless.

Your photos have such detail--are you using a phone camera or a separate camera?

And you just saw the surface of what is up there in those parts. It’s a huge county with a lot of back roads, hidden lakes, jeweled streams, and beautiful views. But don’t tell anybody, it’s our little secret.

When the lower graph is in 'time' mode I think the data refers to how long we spent at a certain elevation, not how far we traveled. For example, at 26:52 we ceased moving and began moving again at 31:44. Maybe because of a photo break. We remained at a constant elevation of 1263 feet but traveled no distance.

Perhaps a seeming connection is created because the 'time' and 'distance' mode graphs are the same size, and the reader can easily toggle back and forth, but I don't think there is a mathematical connection between the two modes.

But I stand ready to be corrected should someone provide a convincing explanation.

I read that article, thanks for sending the link. I often think about that line from Tennessee Williams, “I’ve always depended on the kindness of strangers.” Different context, but similar principle.

I’m just now getting caught up on the feedback from readers. Wonderful story about “Graceville” and your participation in the 1976 bicentennial parade. BTW, Scott and I really loved the ride past Libby Dam last year.

Typo! So glad you’re keeping track. He should get credit for his effort.

It’s a way of resurfacing a road without replacing the asphalt. Aggregate consisting of fine gravel is pressed into the soft warm tar and then hardens. The embedded gravel creates drag on bicycle tires.

We ARE in the land of cheese and passed by the depot where the Edmund Fitzgerald took on its fateful cargo. Are they ready to hear about shipwrecks?

We were back on the road 5/28, but tardy to reply. Now that we’ve figured out an easier way to find comments, we can be more prompt.

I’m late acknowledging all your kind words of support, but yes, I’m doing better.

The thought of making it to a motel in the next town, Deer River, kept me going. I really did not want to camp with mosquitoes. The short rest really helped.

A little time with the feet up works wonders.

Just a typo, that I’ve fixed. Thanks!
