That’s Scott’s photo and caption. It made me laugh out loud.
5 years agoScott says he’s half German and half Austrian, which is ... mostly German. Some Angle, too. The German and Irish ancestries in our partnership create some interesting dynamics.
5 years agoForgot to mention: I see a plot line where a couple on a bike trip abandon their goal in order to take up residence in Port Wing, Wisconsin. They find work however menial, at the Bear Paw Cafe. Many adventures will ensue along the lake shore, as they continue their true goal of spreading diplomacy.

Once a diplomat, always a diplomat. Thanks for the nice lesson on how to model and preach about “getting along with others.” I am now beginning to understand the deeper meaning of this adventure you are sharing.
5 years agoI love how this last week the maps are crowded with names and roads and blocks of green indicating preserved forests or parks. This really points out the difference in Montana and Dakota, a difference of which I no longer seem to take note.
(Awkward sentence structure to avoid ending with a preposition, in case anyone still cares about that crap.) Haha.
Brings back memories of family road trips (ala the Griswolds) near The Dells, Wisconsin- in the sixties. Big deal if they had a color TV in the room, as I remember it.

5 years agoBucolic is another fine word. But sometimes I forget that it is “good” (as in pastoral) and start to go down the path of “buboes”, for no good reason that I can thinking of other than the sound of the first two letters. Buboes are swollen lymph nodes and give name to the Bubonic Plague. So see, way off base.
I loved hearing of the kindness of strangers offering to leave the store open overnight in case you needed shelter from a storm. I imagine you collecting these experiencing like the gems they are.

Love that you can see a good story just about anywhere.
5 years agoTwo comments:
* I LOVE the word verge but have never found cause to use it.
* Hooray for German instincts. I find myself adhering to them with success (in most cases).
Haha
5 years agoBummer about the mechanical problem! Hope you get back in the saddle without too much delay.

LOVE the writerly comments, very helpful to honing my skills. I did enjoy Port Wing and the people there. The blog will be a good record of all the nice things that came our way. And they happen everyday so I would probably forget them if I didn’t write them down.
