Fun fact: my high school band (The Libby Loggers!) was chosen to represent Montana in the Bicentennial Parade in 1976. That same summer we played for the dedication of the Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea statue in Fort Benton. That is the only time I've been there and I thought it was a wonderful place. There was a WWI memorial with the names of soldiers killed, including one from "Graceville" which was named after my grandma Grace Brown. Graceville is no more but it was amazing to see it memorialized that way.
5 years agoOur camping cups are metric and do not correspond neatly to the measurements specified on the packaging. Which is kind of weird for dehydrated meals for campers.
5 years agoWe’re glad the info we share is useful. Scott and I both loved Fort Benton when we drove through a few years ago. We still remember the statue of Shep on the bank of the Missouri. Pretty cool memorial.
5 years agoI'm enjoying hearing about your family history in this area. My grandmother's family homesteaded near Fort Benton and I'd love to ride around that area and find the cemeteries where uncles and great-grandparents are buried.
5 years agoHow much debate can there be? The instructions are written on the package!
And I'd like to say that your preemptive response was baseless, but you quite accurately anticipated my protest. I don't want Yuri's PMA to become family lore like his supposed map reading prowess!
Sorry it was so very hard today.

Apple should pay me for saying this, but no, I just zoom in with my iPhone X. The camera is amazing, it really helps me capture what I see with my eye, which requires zooming out the foreground that is so prominent with most phone cameras.
5 years agoSo funny you mention Bob Seger. I was hearing his song, “Against the Wind,” while doing just that. That’s going to be a theme of another blog actually. What goes through our heads during the hours on the road.
5 years agolove the wide angle landscape shots. do you have a lens attachment for the iphone?
5 years agoI was hoping you would do the Bowdoin NWR (I've been following on Google maps). Bummer about the gravel, and the headwinds must be dispiriting. Just keep the Bob Seger song running through your head, that's where I always go when riding with headwinds.
Only a bit longer til you reach the Missouri - maybe then you'll have something to look at as you pedal!
It was fun being back as a tourist. Just seeing some of the places where we used to play as kids brought back happy memories.

5 years agoI thought that grade was hard. 50 miles into the wind is worse, no down slope.
