We still think either this one or the one from all those years ago looks like something a not particularly talented 6 year old could pull off. But then, as they say, art is in the eye of the beholder.

Hi Lyle! Thanks for the comment. I referred to various cycleblazers' posted maps (including yours) in my planning, but as we know, anything can happen between planning and making it happen.

I did some googling and HU-631 *might* actually be open this year. Whether it's one-way for all traffic, in the other direction of course, is another question. In any case, I'll prepare an alternate route just in case. It's not like we'd miss any turns, but it's always good to be prepared when possible.

Hi Jacquie, great looking route. Looking forward to following along …. and we’ll likely copy a lot of your French days in reverse on our next tour.
As a heads-up, on your Torla Ordesa to Ainsa day, your route follows the Rio Bellós all the way to Escalona. This is the route that we had planned last year, and was the same route shown in the TA 2017 Bilbao to Sete tour (no coincidence at all 😎). However, about 10 km past the Col at Fanlo this road was barricaded and we had to divert to the unnamed / unmarked road to the west with an additional 250 m climb through the village of Buerba (very cool). Scott commented in our blog for this day that this was the route that they took too (and they’ve got pictures of Buerba) so the road was probably barricaded as far back as then (2017). On their 2017 tour I think TA put their ‘planned route’ in the blog, not what they actually rode on the day.

Even with our unplanned detour and additional climbing, it was a fantastic ride!

Thanks, Rachael! You know we always bring our puffy jackets but the dither is whether to just bring tights (not waterproof but they’ve been adequate on our last few trips) or the soft-shell rain pants (bulkier to carry and often too warm while riding). I think the shoe covers will come along as we both hate wet shoes.

It’s been cold where we are in Spain. Hopefully, it won’t be too cold in the Pyrenees when you start riding! I hope the flight goes well.

Yup, close but a miss. We'll be in Adast, between Luz-St-Saveur and Argeles-Gazost, when you're in Hendaye.

We plan to finish in Hendaye on June 4th and spend a couple of days there - about a week ahead - but close for sure.

I doubt we will catch you. We should cross into France on May 25 for a day off in Collioure, a place I remember visiting in 1992. Then we head west and arrive at St-Jean-de-Luz on June 13. One thing about pre-booking is we know our schedule. Unless, of course, we act like TA and revise it every couple of weeks.

Glad to see everything coming together on your ambitious cycling tour. Fingers crossed for the spring warm weather to finally show up. While you and Al are in Spain travelling East, Pat and I plan to be heading West on the French side. I will monitor your progress and if you are about to lap us I will give you a shout. But with our head start we likely will not cross paths. Our route is along the Pyrenees foothills with a few excursions deeper into the range before hitting the west coast. Good luck!
