Happy birthday, Al. I’m glad you took a day off to rest up and explore the town.

This actually looks better than most of the breakfast we’ve had. Frequently, I’ll get breakfast stuff from a grocery store if I have a refrigerator!

I love revueltos and these look especially tasty! They’re hard to find in the part of Spain we are in now!

How exciting getting to see your first nesting stork! We’ve seen so many on this tour but it’s a thrill every time!

About fees: I think the European airlines’ fees are distance-based. It also seems to depend where you check in and the agent you get sometimes.

It seems fees are a bit different flying out of the US compared to Canada. We still don’t really want to connect through the US and flying out of Bellingham or Seatac is just too much faff and expense.

Interesting. I rode Mas d’Azil on my previous Pyrenees trip but that was back when I was still learning how to use my Garmin and RWGPS.

These days, I just use RWGPS elevation gains as upper limits when planning.

Re bike fees: I haven't paid any since 2016. I live in Tacoma and fly out of Seattle. Alaska and Delta eliminated these fees years ago. My wife did have to pay last week flying from Rome to AMS on KLM. Technically, KLM still charges for bikes (and golf clubs for that matter) even if you're under the weight and size limits. She got a "Nurse Ratched" agent (from the book "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). But, I flew KLM in January from Malaga to AMS, and no one assessed any fees.

Air France has not charged me either. Paris-CDG has really upped their game over the last decade. Easy to connect, great signage, and helpful people. So, that's why we stick with Delta/Air France for our EU travel.

Agree with you re: RWGPS in Europe. In my experience, it's about 1/3 higher than actual. And it gives you some crazy climb percentages. For examples, both in the Pyrenees, it failed to account for the tunnel at Mas D'Azil grotto (on the way to Foix) and had a waypoint 200 meters above that point with some insane like 50% climb. Another was near Azat, going up to climb Col de Pailhaires (sp?). There's a gorge you ride through at a nominal slope of 1-3%. RWGPS put in a 35% climb in that section.

The RWGPS accuracy is much better in the US, though it tried to take my wife and I into a cement plant near Corvallis, OR, and on a dirt track into the Centralia, WA coal plant (even though I chose "paved only".

Since I've been biking a lot in France, I use Openrunner, which has a great mapping system, and easy to import to a GPS device (Garmin or Wahoo).

I remembered your photo too. We weighed the options and decided it couldn’t be worse than the creekbed we followed in Sicily—and it wasn’t.
