That’s a big day on the bike by my measurement system. Nice work!

10 months agoHah! I copied much of your trip for my 2016 tour, but not the day rides. This time, I was just creating my own. I guess I’ve learned from the master!
10 months agoThis spot! I nearly matched both your two photos a decade ago, on a day ride from Quinlan: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/girona2014/layover-in-quillan/#3249_1912877_1zGsoq_image. After that we biked the other direction through the amazing Joucou Gorge on our way back. Thanks for the reminder of a spectacular ride.
10 months agoThanks, Bill. It’s a pretty unique looking plant!
10 months agoPretty. Its some kind of eucalyptus, I think.
10 months agoI got lucky and found a photo match right away! Tassel hyacinth.

Yes! Crimson clover.

That's a classic south-of-France summer road resurfacing job. They spread tar over the road, dump a bunch of gravel on it, and let the cars grind the gravel into the road surface. Until that happens, it's tough to cycle on!
10 months agoI have never seen anything like these, only red in Europe, yellow in North America, and blue in places like Butchart Gardens.

10 months agoIt could be good, but I tour with 38 mm rather slick GravelKing tires and don’t have the greatest MTB skills. The little pebbles were like ball bearings but at least not too deep. I don’t like chipseal, especially when it’s not yet compacted by traffic.

Big by our standards too. We earned our rest day!
