I"m glad my description was clear enough that you knew where I was talking about. I could definitely see that being mud today!

We actually saw that short path and turned. 20 feet later the mud was oozing and we turned around to go up the other side.

Hadn’t even noticed that until now.

I thought of you several times today! I was feeling sorry you had such a poor weather welcome to Tucson, but then reminded myself that it was +40 degrees, not -40 degrees. I started out riding the Treat Street Loop (Scott Anderson sent that one to me), but turned tail after 10 miles when I was headed into a black rain cloud, plus a headwind. I mostly rode out of it, enough that I got cocky and passed my house. That was a mistake. I ended up getting soaked before I got home!

If you are trustworthy of riding a small bit of dirt, instead of crossing under the Houghton Bridge to climb it on the paved path, you can take the dirt path on 'your' side to stay on the west side to get home. I hope that makes sense. It's maybe a block of dirt, then you can access the bridge on the opposite side. If you look closely at the RWGPS map, you'll see it. Having pointed that out, I don't trust the dirt in Tucson - too many sharp, pokey things. I also go for the paved trail on the other side.

I have been told that the blue glass on the ground and it the wall is lit up and night. Given your location, you can find out if that's fact or not!

Join the Tucson Recumbent Cyclists page on FB to get information directly. We usually ride together on Wednesdays, but the ride was moved up this week because of the forecast. Emphasis with this group is social/lunch. 20 miles is the typical distance. There is talk of a ride through East Saguaro Park on the 13th. There's a group of the Palm Springs recumbent rally riders coming to Tucson for a few days, and they are seeing the sights. That's a more difficult ride than is typical.

I can't seem to find your email. Can you send me one, so I can contact you off list?

BTW - I also love small airports. You might not get a direct flight, but going through security is a breeze. Ten minutes from car to gate! Love it.

So I spent my college years in very northern New York State during the 1970’s, and experienced -30F more than a few times. Your comment about “the tires going bump, bump, bump until they smoothed out” definitely brought back some memories!

Thanks for the info. How often are you doing club rides? Quite excited to get there even if some rain is forecast. We’ve warmed to a -11 this morning so most temperatures will be a welcome relief.

It's 75 degrees today and we have a club ride to lunch. Rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, not a good welcome for you to Tucson. But it will be rain, and not snow! I'm looking forward to meeting you both!

Thanks for the reply. I did see the TerraTrike Traveler has gone to a Enviolo hub on back (tweaked my interest), but the Ice looks more substantial. I guess I could upgrade hubs to a Alfina and add e-system as I continue to evaluate. I’m not quite ready to spend $12k on the Adventure with E up front and the Enviolo Automatiq hub they have come out with!
Some of my fave trails in the Carolinas/Va: Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville SC (my hometown), Neuse River Greenway in Raleigh, NC, Capitol Trail in Richmond to Williamsburg, VA. Good videos on these are on You Tube, filmed by the late Kenny P of BentNation.com. Again, enjoy the sun and reach out anytime! RR.
