Thanks Kelly … a very nice, no problem or issues, trip. We ended up with 813 miles, 29 rides over 24 days, and a total of 2900 drive miles spanning 5 states. Left Seattle at 64 degrees, landed in Fairbanks at 37 degrees. Believe there will be an adjustment coming.

Beautiful photo!. We also rode across that bridge in our last coastal tour in 2018. It was not a pleasant ride and I was so relieved when we reached Astoria safely. It's a poor excuse for a designated state and ACA cycling route.

Great shot! What a spectacular sky. I love Astoria, a place we used to go over to for a three day break every few years when we still lived in Portland. And you’re right about that bridge - I rode across it back in 1972 on a trip down the coast from Bellingham, and it was scary enough then when there were fewer and smaller vehicles on the road. Never again.

We could definitely see signs of a past fire. Towards the southern end, the undergrowth was coming back but the cottonwoods were simply dead trees waiting to fall over.

This is a sad trail for us. We started biking it years ago when we would go down to Ashland for the plays and bike this to Jacksonville and back. The section through Talent and Phoenix got completely burned out by the devastating Alameda Fire in 2020. One of the most destructive fires in Oregon’s history, it destroyed something like 2,500 homes. I wouldn’t be surprised if that contributed to the homelessness situation.

I’ve wanted to experiment with how long one could go but don’t really like carrying a spare with me.

Jacinto lets his tires get a nice wide continuous blue stripe all around the tire before he takes them off. When I protest, he says even with so much blue showing, his tires are still thicker than mine. He has a point.

Yep … really made sense to us as well.

I sure could relate to that comment "I'm just aging out of some things" since we've transitioned from self-contained touring to day rides as we travel in our Airstream trailer.
