We did have a better day, thanks! Health is improving, cycling was easier, trash was sparser and easier to look beyond. Such a beautiful place, if you can keep the right focus!
5 years agoThanks for your comments Sharon, and for the interesting background. Have you ever been to Sicily yourself to check out the family heritage?
Optimism definitely helps, both in working through the always interesting vicissitudes of the tour and in allowing us to look past the roadside trash or occasionally punishing slopes to focus on the astounding beauty here. I think you could come away with a quite different impression of Sicily if you chose different aspects to focus on.
He’s been quite well behaved the last few weeks. It’s probably about time to reward him with another treat.

5 years agoHello Scott and Rachael. I am greatly enjoying reading and seeing your tour through Sicily, my ancestors' homeland. Your optimistic attitude throughout is delightful. This photo of the lemon grove reminded me of the story about my Great Grandfather, who was a lemon picker there and decided to immigrate to Canada in 1905 because he got fed up with having to pay "Fees" from his meager pay to a certain group of Sicilian men. He opened a little fruit market in Toronto.
5 years agoLove the Bad and the Ugly video .. the garbage was much worse than I had imagined!
Hope you're enjoying a better day today.
Yes, that and the way he’s really leaning into it. Head down, nose to the grindstone.
5 years agoTrue. And if you mentally sub in granite for lava you could be just down the way from us.
5 years agoGreat to start this post with Rachael's video. What a beautiful ride!
5 years agoHow lovely the moon made an appearance for this photo!
5 years agoMaybe a 3 bedroom would be better. It's always good to have space for a couple of Grumbys!

5 years agoYou might need your own bedroom so could you check to see if they have two bedroom units you could rent?
I have Croatian coffee all ready to go. I'd be generous and let you have all you wanted.
I loved this town - maybe my favourite so far in Sicily. I promised myself, next time, to stay a week. Lots of time to wander every street, and staying in an apartment so I could go crazy in the wonderful food markets!
5 years agoReally enjoying this journal - thanks. It's taking me back. Although I was there September/October so not the abundance of flowers... Your photos are beautiful.
Looking forward to Etna. I loved the landscapes, but found the number of people living and farming on the face of the volcano confronting. I know the soil is great. But?!? Look at all that lava - a bit suggestive? Cute local train between the towns! Have fun!!
