As Scott mentioned, we are also biking to Medina. You mentioned you biked on the Erie Canal Trail towpath and that the 15 miles to Medina were canal-side along a mostly packed crushed stone surface. My butt doesn’t do well with a lot of riding on rough roads. How bad is it?
3 years agoMunich to Bologna and back again! Can’t wait to see your itinerary. It’s possible we could cross paths somewhere along the way. You might check in with Susan Gibson also, who lives just south of Munich.
3 years agoWhat?? That’s an amazing story about your bicycle helmet - both that you weren’t aware you weren’t wearing it and that it didn’t fall off earlier.
And, of course, thanks for taking us along!
Thanks Paul - I also gleaned quite a lot from your journal so am delighted that I could reciprocate a bit. Have a great trip
3 years agoThanks Racpat - please let me know if you have any questions etc as you get nearer to Buffalo. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy your route across the upper Midwest.
3 years agoThanks for following along Bob. It is a great part of the country and seems like nice place to grow up.

3 years agoI’ve really enjoyed tagging along with you on this trip! The area looks lovely and your writing made it come alive for me. Thanks!
3 years agoThanks for posting your journey - loved re-living sights from my pass-through in 2017 and especially those parts of the Empire tour from NYC. I want to take my wife with me on the next pass from Manhattan to Buffalo so your experience and photos gave me a good indication of what the route is like. Thanks.
3 years agoThis is terrific information as we will be doing this as part of our tour. Thanks
Racpat
Ah, you passed very close by the small town where I grew up, just a couple miles from Canajoharie. Those photos brought back lots of memories.

We won’t tell anyone that you went commando. (That line had me laughing out loud. Thanks.)

"not a chance" - I couldn't agree more and it's not the way I progressed this part of the trail :-)
