You can see today's route on the main route map. Richfield to Ephraim is mile 231 to mile 285.
2 years agoI would guess that the National Forest is pronounced the same way, but most people don't know it.
2 years agoWill you be going back and adding maps to your journals? Today is a day I would especially like to see a map.
Adding maps here is SO, SO easy compared to . . . .
As you noted, Manti looks incredible. Hard to imagine I've never heard of the town. I have mountain biked in the Manti La Sal range though. Am I to assume that Manti is also pronounced with a long "i" and I've been mispronouncing it for the last 20 years?
2 years agoThanks for all the corrections.
2 years agoThe Park is a bit further east past the E. fork Sevier River drainage
2 years agoActually not, all the red elevated terrain you see to the east from Hwy. 89 is on the Powell RD, Dixie NF.
2 years agoThose are called Sunset Cliffs Wayne, West slope of the Paunsaugunt Plateau.
2 years agoUS 89 is mostly a decent cycling route. Traffic can be heavy but it almost always has a wide paved shoulder.
Farther north I have more parallel roads and trails to choose from, but sometimes I stay on US 89 to go to a Temple.
US Bicycle Route 77 is the "default" cycling route up the middle of Utah. It uses US 89 when necessary.
We drove Highway 89 last year when we went to Bryce and thought at the time that it would make a good route for a tour. So your journal has been interesting reading.
2 years agoI never compared it to other places, but I suppose so. In the old downtown areas they decided on the road width more than 100 years ago.
2 years agoMy parents owned this for many years. I'm glad to see it's still open.
2 years agoUtah towns tend to have nice, wide streets, don't they?
2 years agoThat looks very deserted. Cinema Treasures.org tells me that it opened originally in 1920, underwent several name changes, closed in 1983 and reopened in 2018 as a community arts center. It doesn't look open now.

Re: "Awesome abandoned gas station"
2 years agoYou see places this often in the south west.
I often think these would make a nice home or business, with some work of course.
