Thanks, Mike!
5 years agoI second that, am also really enjoying your posts and looking forward to what you report from cuba! Next best thing to being there myself.
5 years agoIt's so funny because everyone has done it but us and we had no idea why people love it so much until now! Definitely taking the masks and snorkels to Cuba!
5 years agoThat's so cool you like snorkeling! Definitely my favorite activity when we went to Hawaii. It's amazing all the cool fish just right there below the surface.
5 years agoOh, wow, that's a bike lane!
5 years agoYour first Caribbean pic! (Sorry, I'm several days behind.)
5 years agoWe are glad you are enjoying the journal and so happy to hear of Dodie's great progress! You two will be back on the road in no time - hurray! I don't know how often I will be able to post from Cuba, given the wifi situation there, but I will try!
5 years agoWe are really enjoying reading about these last few days through all the placeswe enjoyed so much on our last trip. And we are REALLY looking forward to Cuba, where we would love to go but have never been. Dodie's recovery continues at a much faster and more comfortable pace than the last knee, and we are hopeful she will make that all importwnt first revolution of the pedqls in a few more days. After that there is no holding her back.
5 years agoLove it, so cute!
5 years agoYes, it is sad and so much more that people are becoming immune to the horrors. We try to remember that each place we are at (including at home in BC) has its wonderful things and some bad elements that you just try to avoid with the best of your common sense. It certainly doesn't always work, but it's all we can do for now. Looking forward to Cuba where we will feel very safe, I'm sure! Only 6 days till we leave!
5 years agoI had thought of writing you about increased violence in Cancun and now even Playa, but there is no point since there is nothing you can do to increase your own safety of that of others. But our daughter Joni from Belize, who is now here, mentioned the bizarre sight of tourists going about their suntanning, with a dead body out on the beach at Playa. It's sad to think this Mexican drug war thing has now also reached Yucatan.
Of course, there was also the bomb on the Cozumel ferry. Hmmm.
It's funny, isn't it? We kind of felt for these folks having paid for their great view and beach and then have that massive seaweed every day! It was such a short ride up to the other side it was sure worth the difference in price!
5 years agoWe were intrigued by the condos in this area too. You are right - we found prices from $250 to $800! But this pictured one, called "Del Sol Beachfront", claims to be budget friendly. You could stay there for just $140! However on our stay in Akumal we were like you across the highway, and paid $40.
5 years agoI love them! So much life in such a small space. I love to look at them with the grandkids up in BC

Fantastic stories from your time in Yucatan. We really hope you find some wifi in Cuba so we can continue to follow your adventures. If not, vaya con dios and have a great time.
