Ron Suchanek commented on BRUCE STATS - MYANMAR

I don't see any delicious canned chicken or delicious Keebler Snack Crackers on the statistics list. I'm sure it was just an oversight.

We’re in! It will give us that excuse we’ve been looking for to come back to Portland. We’ll bring the beer, and GBO can do the honors.

I would add to the list of stats:

Most Badass Touring Cyclists in Myanmar in late 2019: Bruce & Andrea!!

Seriously .. you 2 maintained an impressive spirit of openness & adventure through some serious adversity. And you gave your readers a thought-provoking and fascinating view into a culture that many of us could never imagine.

A meat flakes and "delicious" canned chicken party?!

What could possibly be more fun than that?

Maybe Bruce and Andrea could also bring a pack of fish skin chid?

I was actually hoping Andrea would offer to carry me. There were two of these bridges and a week later we rode them again! They totally freaked me out!

They drizzle hot crude oil over the rocks and then women, always women, haul basket after basket full of sand and spread it. They are walking on the hot crude oil either barefoot or in flip flops. Over and over they repeat this process. It's insane.

Myanmar is a rare gem, the people its national treasures. Yes, definitely go back, Jacquie, just don't ride a bike there.

Myanmar is by far the most expensive for hotels in all of S.E. Asia. I'm not sure why but they all do include breakfast and sometimes the breakfast is an awesome breakfast, worth more than the room! Sometimes we don't need to eat again all day because we (I) have pigged out on the great breakfast buffet. In Thailand I suspect our average hotel price will drop to around $14 per night which is way up from previous trips. The dollar sucks and I suspect the Thai government has artificially propped up the Thai Baht. It's stronger than I've seen in 25 years.

Would be great if you could bring some of those fried meat flakes home with you. We could get together with the Grumbys and they could bring some canned chicken as a nice pairing.

Also, just saying - I’m not sure you couldn’t come close to a 20 euro hotel in parts of Spain if you were cost conscious.

No words. Just glad you came through. Better roads ahead!

Okay, so maybe I don't want to go to back to Myanmar again after all...

"Angelic Face of Patience and Tolerance" .. this is going on my Andrea's Bits O' Wisdom list. I don't know how you and Bruce got through that without losing your cool .. especially after you'd already traveled the Unmettled Road From Hell.

Your descriptions really capture how challenging and beautiful it is to travel in a place so overridden with corruption. I'm so glad you were there long enough to experience the incredible resilience of so many people and that their joyful and generous spirit helped carry you through dark moments.

Here's to some smoother roads ahead!

Frustrating to have to deal with sad power hungry people like this after all of the great people you've met here.
