It was unbelievable, this scene at the bank. Kind of disgusting and saddening. Even the cops bought lottery tickets. Some sellers were far busier than others, maybe they once sold a winning ticket, who knows. Thank you for the insight on this, we were only speculating but you have confirmed what we thought was going on. What a waste.
4 years agoThe lottery is exactly the reason for all the people being in the bank! The draws are every 1st and 16th of the month, except December when there is one at the 30th too. Parallel they run what they call "illegal" lotteries and all together it is about megabucks for Thai standards. Actually a lot of restaurants close on those particular days as people spend all their money and time on the lottery. Why not buy the ticket on the other days? No idea, must have to do with the very widespread superstition I guess
4 years agoIn one guest house I noticed an outlet six feet above the shower head! What?!! I didn't plug anything into that one. I couldn't reach it.
We have finally figured out that in these countries all you need is one of those two prong adaptors and a simple three prong one, just one of the ones we use in the States.
That's a nice thought, Rich. I hope so.
I thought it was dead when I picked it up but I saw a bit of movement. I was so sad to have this beautiful little being dying in my hand after being hit by one of the noisy diesel belching vehicles on the road. I hope I had some impact on it. One never knows.
Sometimes the sun is so intense I put my sun hat under my helmet. The chinstraps bow the brim down like a sunbonnet and protect my ears and the back of my neck. It looks really odd but works quite well. When it’s less intense I get by with a bandanna under my helmet to catch the sweat and a buff on my neck. It depends on what shirt I’m wearing too, one of my “sun/cooling” shirts has too low of a neckline to use a buff OR a bandanna so it’s basically useless. It also depends on whether we’ll be cycling south into the sun that day, the hat adds more brim in the front.
4 years agoWe did not. Most of our cords seem to work in most of the outlets, although sometimes the phone or ipad is propped up on a pannier. The newer guest houses usually have enough outlets, it’s the oldies that have them six feet off the floor, one, near the door.
4 years agoWell, it may have been the dumbest thing I've ever done, to take a brand new Brooks on a long trip without breaking it in first. And I didn't bring any padded shorts. If we were riding every single day I would have shipped it home in that box but I'm getting along all right, just barely. I don't think this model was the correct one. I probably needed a larger one for my big butt. 900+ miles on it and it's starting to be broken in. Should be fine once I have 10,000 miles on it.

4 years agoToddler skating .. sounds better than our news on most days!
4 years agoDid youse bring an extension cord?
Gay had one that all three of us used more than a few times.
That is some sun protection you've rigged up there!
How did you do it and what all do you have attached to your helmet?
Love that you were able to create a connection and leave a good impression with just a few words in Thai.
I'm sure your smiles and genuine interest also go a long way to relieve unnecessary tensions and to make its flower are happy again.
11.6 pounds?! That was probably a 14+% reduction .. a difference you can feel!

I’m so sorry, Bruce. I’ve been worried about this idea ever since I heard about it. Youth never listens.
