Neither have I. These surprised me more than anything else we saw today. I’m hoping someone can identify it, because I can’t find anything that looks like this.

Could have done better on the VT architecture front, but the hike really seemed like the best use of the day. If I were a few years younger I’d have walked around town after the hike, but I was happy enough to make it back to the room.

Middlebury is such a great town. You did have a perfect day. Last time I was there, to visit our niece at the school, it was in February. Bleah. Thanks for all the great photos of blue sky and New England architecture.

As a former resident of Vermont, I am dying for more Vermont rides on here. So, Bob, if you can ….

Wow! Never seen mushrooms like these. Your fabulous pictures rival those I took in the rain forest around the Olympic NP area.

Just speculation, but I'm guessing our alternately rainy and then hot and humid July contributed to that abundance of fungi.

You too? It seems everyone but ourselves knows about Ausable Chasm. We’d never heard of it and happened on it only by chance.

It was probably much simpler then. Now, it’s $18 for basic admission, which entitles you to a self-guided walk along the trails. There are six different upgrades though, ranging from $12 to $200. For $35 you can walk the Adventure Trail, which lets you cross the river on that cable bridge. For me, looking over the edge from the bridge was awesome enough.

Nice of you to not point out that it was probably me then also. Maybe I’ll remember next time.

It’s really an exceptional plant, although Bill straightened me out here. It’s just another old thistle.

Thanks, Bob. Looks like a great little state you’ve got yourself here. And thanks for your recommendation months ago! It’s your doing that we came by this way.

Isn’t that beautiful though? A real work of art.

That's a great use for old skis! Let's see: 4 pairs per chair. If only we hadn't turfed them all in preparation for our move.

As the sign said, "Welcome to Vermont". Sorry about the rough road conditions on the first part of your ride. I wish I could say that you won't encounter any of those kind of roads in Vermont, but I'd be lying.
I love Middlebury, and we've stayed at the Swift House Inn. It's a great choice for a two night stay. Enjoy!
