Bored? Well, let's put it this way. I'm certainly getting 'itchy cleats'. Looks like another domestic cycle tour for us this year. I am not hopeful about European travel this summer. Glad the dental procedure went well. You need those teeth for all that yummy food your going to eat this year.

3 years agoGetting bored up there? I think I only published this two minutes ago.
3 years agocupola?
3 years agoMore interesting history about the Rose City Golf Course - it was also the site of the first airplane landing facility in the vicinity.
3 years agoI was surprised too, but it makes sense when you look at the shape of the property. It was the site of Rose City Raceway from 1910-21. The site for the golf course has a photo of the final public event before closing down the raceway: a head-oncollision between twos railroad steam engines. Who wouldn’t pay to see that!

Thanks for the report on the Springwater. I’m in complete agreement with your frustration and discouragement. I guess it’s the Trolley Trail for me.
3 years agoI had no idea it used to be a racetrack!
This is the park where I used to take my dog to run when she was a pup and we were living in a house near NE 58th & Halsey.
It really is nice. I’ve never paid any attention to it before, just mentally cataloging it as a golf course without giving it a second look.
3 years ago"Brachiate" is my new word of the day. Good one. Looking at the context in which you used the word, I was able to deduce that it had something to do with branches, or branching. I looked up the definition anyway, and I found the verb usage ("move by using the arms to swing from branch to branch") to be amusing. I pictured you and your Rodriguez swinging through the trees up and down the hills of Portland.
I admire your hill-training regimen, but once you leave the Mississippi River valley it's going to be a couple weeks before you have to actually use your climbing skills. Maybe you can build up a big lead on the flatlands of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and the Erie Canal Trail, then Rocky can catch up in the Adirondacks and the Berkshires and you'll be able to ride into Boston together.
Agreed.
Possibly Norway maple.

Mustard.
There are a dozen species in the area. Most likely field mustard.

I’ve never gone up that side before, always the tunnel side. Always a lovely ride.
3 years agoSome kind of maple? They are blooming now.
