Yep, still got the specs and my Pendleton, so far at least. We’ll see if they see the Starnberger See, but we’re off on the right foot.
3 years agoHey, Ben. I’d forgotten you were from this part of the world. I always associate you with the radwegs that we’ll be seeing soon too, one we put this pesky North America behind us.
Cracked and rough bike paths! Something else to look forward too. And here I thought it would be all about the walleye.
Bon voyage! You are finally off and it's going to be a great trip. Didn't even lose your glasses this time. Looking forward to news from the road.
3 years agoWelcome to the land of lakes and cracked and occasionally rough bike paths. Our winters are hard on our pavement, but we do have some very nice scenery. And a lot of different ways to escape the cities too.
3 years agoNo, I can’t say I heard anything from mom I hadn’t heard before, because dad monopolized my time so all I could do was watch. Which is fine.
3 years agoThanks, and thanks for noticing about the song. I was really pleased myself when it came to mind. A lucky inspiration.
3 years agoIt's a beautiful car obviously well maintained and I'm so happy Elizabeth agreed to sell it to me instead of CarMax. CarMax doesn't even offer tea and scones at their signing ceremonies. Thank you, Elizabeth and thank you, Scott, for being the go-between agent to make the deal happen. I'm thrilled. I have never owned a car with electric windows let alone airbags! And I haven't had a car with air conditioning for 20 years. It's actually a bit extravagant and luxurious for me but I'm ready to give it a go in my old age.
3 years agoYour choice in music, America, was perfect as you head east "to look for America." And the accompanying video shows an America coming back to life. Your timing is again possibly perfect in that regard and you will no doubt have a wonderful summer. Good luck, you two, on the road again.
3 years agoHoof fungus! That’s descriptive enough. I’ve never tried to classify these, but I think I could remember this one.
3 years agoPossibly hoof fungus.

Great to read about the family and to see the photos from the visit with your parents!
Wonderful that your mom enjoyed sharing old travel stories. Did you learn anything you hadn't heard before?
That is so great! I’ll have to call dad and let him know, or send him a link to the article: http://www.geocities.ws/dushang2000/Watch_gauges/index.html.
3 years agoIt appears to be a watchmaker's micrometer gauge repair tool. I do not know how exactly they are used.
One description:
Classic watchmaker's measuring tool called "Douzième" Gauge or to be more precise the "Dixième" as this one is Metric.
The tool measures with a resolution of 0.1 mm (0.004") and a range from 0 to 12 mm (0 to 0.5")
We have the 1030 plus but you can do it with other edges. We got the 1030 plus because it has detailed maps for all of North America and Europe.

Not all the paths are bad. The greenway along the Mississippi from downtown to Minnehaha falls is nicely paved. Great ride too. The Midtown Greenway is in good shape and the paths around the chain of lakes are nice too. Just try to avoid the North Cedar Lake trail. That one badly needs to be dug up and repaved. I doubt you'll be riding any trails in Eden Prairie. Those are pretty much all awful. The Dakota Rail Trail is superb too but it heads in the wrong direction for you. I've no idea what the trails up in the northern burbs are like. I've never biked up there.
