This was the easy part. We should have figured out a way to get a photo of lifting the bikes over the top.
3 years agoYes. Remove insoles first and dry those separately. It's a tested method!
3 years agoWow! That's bigger than any apartment I've ever lived in (and the main floor of our current and future homes).
3 years agoWell done! As agile as a bendy-straw!
3 years agoNice complementary colors with the beer and the purple tablecloth in the background!!
3 years agoIn Italy once Janos has left his camera at a hotel, too. We weren't close enough to cycle back easily, but they agreed to have a taxi deliver it to where we were waiting. The real problem was making contact with the hotel since this was before cell phones were common. But it all worked out.
3 years agoDitto what Steve said. It really works.
3 years agoStuff crumpled newspaper in each. Leave for an hour or so and repeat. Takes a LOT of the moisture out.
3 years agoYogurt will keep a day or two (or more) without refrigeration, although all bets are off if it's really hot. On kayaking trips, I've had unopened yogurts keep over a week.
3 years agoI think Al's enjoyed the trips I've planned that he's come along on. Quite different than the ones he and his buddies do (big days on light road bikes, support van, etc.) I think my trips are more enjoyable.
3 years agoWe’ll be curious to see what we come up with ourselves! I’ve got a rough map in mind, but Rachael’s is all around flexibility and extended stays. Hard to say where we’ll be a year from now.
3 years agoJust caught up--I admit I hadn't been following along because I'm envious, stuck here at home. But I'm really curious to see what you come up with for the British Isles because that's high on my list and I've always had a good trip base mine from yours.
3 years agoI had the chance to go through some locks on the Mississippi and the Ohio in a pleasure boat just a couple of years ago with a friend who was doing the Great Loop. The first time was interesting. Waiting in the high heat and humidity for a few hours for the barge traffic to clear was not so interesting. We even had to listen to the lock master drone on over the marine radio about a special Honduran recipe that used sliced hot dogs with tortillas. There was no escape.
There were no fees involved on those rivers, so it tickled me that the lock masters lower a basket on the St Lawrence.
We’ll be in Plattsburgh tomorrow! I love the Catholic churches through here - they remind me of the amazing wooden ones from Nova Scotia and Quebec we saw 30 years ago.

Isn’t that crazy? 2,000+ sq ft. What I can’t figure out is this couple’s business model. How could they possibly be making any money at this?
