Don't tip it, though. :)

Stylistically at least, that bike's a throwback to the early 1900s. Paint it olive drab and it could have been an Army bike.

That’s amazing. I think it really got to us that day as our trikes, which we love, really are not adaptable in this situation. Barry was having a painful day and this didn’t help. No matter, it’s is must a memory now. Glad you found your glasses!

I agree, that is why I took the photo. I loved the fabric.

Amazing. We couldn’t believe it fifteen years ago, but it looks like nothing has changed: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/japan2007/day-22-nara-to-kobe-traversing-the-endless-city/#2973_1148698_Osakabikepath

Keith, you are really helping us. Today we finished a 100+ Km ride and we are just relaxing. Appreciate your comments and research as always.

Wikipedia to the rescue!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bake-danuki

"Bake-danuki (化け狸) are a kind of yōkai (supernatural beings) found in the classics and in the folklore and legends of various places in Japan, commonly associated with the Japanese raccoon dog or tanuki."

Google's image search says "Callistemon speciosus", or crimson bottlebrush.

"Callistemon rigidus" (https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=282891) is also a close visual match.

It's called a "brush tree" in the translated-to-English Japanese website I found.

Looks like a row of suburban townhouses! Quite a far cry (and a BIG step up) from Motel 6 or Super 8 or EconoLodge.
