Canada would be a great place to live! But farther away from Tucson!
6 months agoThat’s great you got to meet them! We met them in 2018 and a I ran into a relative a couple of days ago.
6 months agoI’ll guess that the ones on the top are Canadian because I’ve never seen the kind on the bottom—but I haven’t bought Fig Newtons in years.
6 months agoWind is better than wildfire smoke. We drove through here in 2003 (109th anniversary of the Frank Slide) and it was so smoky we were worried the road would be closed. No view.
6 months agoYep, that's where we ate tonight. It was a busy place. Jacinto has a box of leftovers for breakfast in the morning. He's happy. Tomorrow is Coeur d'Alene and then a rest day. Our first one after 12 riding days.
6 months agoI stayed at the Antler Motel in 2021 on my Northern Tier ride. At that time there was a Mexican restaurant catty-corner across the street. Seemed like a nice little town.
6 months agoWe were just looking over that journal entry last night. I pointed out your photo to Jacinto. I don’t remember if I asked permission to take your photo or not (nod to recent forum discussion there). That was five years ago!
6 months agoIt's a beautiful river, but this is one of the nicest shots I've seen.
6 months agoI remember grinding up that hill away from Metalline Falls. It was soon afterward that I met you & Jen & Jim in person, and Jacinto a while later. And, based on your recommendation, I got a room at the SalCrest Motel that night. The weather was excellent that day--unlike what you got yesterday.
I've gotten that "do you have more than $10,000 in cash" question at border crossings. It's hilarious. Maybe you hesitated too long after the question, and that's why they searched your panniers. LOL
I have heard of that. Happily, I’ve never needed to try it myself. I’ve worn sandals for years. One advantage being riding in the rain.
Jacinto ended up balancing his shoes upside down on top of the window unit heater/cooler. Let’s see how they are later. These were brand new shoes for the trip. They sure don’t look it anymore!
We have cycled bits and pieces of the Great Parks route over the years. That would be a good ride. Perhaps in the fall when the summer traffic has quit.
6 months agoAs far as I know, all of the ACA routes are within the USA except the Great Divide Mountain Bike Roite and the Great Parks route (which I wasn’t aware of until I was checking my facts today). The Great Parks route goes through Waterton and I might do it someday, now that I know about it. Thanks!
6 months agoYou may already know this, but I've discovered a great method to dry wet bike shoes. Wad up pieces of newspaper and put them into the shoes - stuffing them all the way into the toe box. The paper absorbs the moisture. As the paper gets wet, replace it with dry paper.
6 months agoThat’s a serious amount of inflation since 2015!

I definitely stay away from roads with bears where possible!
