A book by J A Jance. Exit Wounds. I read 100 pages last night. Im going to have to pace myself today, or I will finish it too soon!
6 months agowhat book did you pick up?
6 months agoNice, but the original is better: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/uksummer2022/to-salisbury-and-stonehenge/#42291_imwa55rrp10ysyw8q1jehrko8su
6 months agoIt’s cute! It looks like a kid’s toy.
6 months agoGreat luck that a bike shop was close to the motel and not miles away. Shimano bottom brackets are so cheap that you might as well replace it at the slightest sign of a problem. The bottom bracket on my Giro 20 abruptly went bad after 50,000 miles. Glad it happened at home and not during a tour.
6 months agoThank you! Extra, because that’s my photo and not Jacinto’s.
6 months agoNice bike!
6 months agoThat sounds like us and the Icefields Parkway. We knew there were great views behind those clouds, if we could only see!
6 months agoI haven’t had fig newtons in years, but was getting tired of bars. Fig Newtons are little calorie bombs. 50 calories each! They are not something I eat when off the bike, but they’ve been a staple this summer.
For those curious - the name brand newtons seem a little rubbery to me. The crust is too firm.
Today is our third day back in the USA. I miss Canada’s trash free roads and smooth pavement. Perhaps all of the pavement isn’t that nice, but the roads we were on were exemplary.
6 months agoThe irony. I had dogs come out in four spots on the Kalispel reservation. One serious enough for me to stop. There were two utility trucks driving past, they ran interference for me so I could get down the road. I forgot to put that in the journal. Jacinto had no issues.
6 months agoWatch out for dogs whenever you're on a reservation. I've learned that the hard way!
6 months agoThe newspaper method definitely works, especially if you pull the insole out first. I would never put my $$$ leather cycling shoes on a heat source. They are the most expensive footwear I’ve ever bought that weren’t ski boots.
6 months agoNote the rusty bolt. Some “bear in area” signs are always there.

As much riding as we do, neither of us can remember changing a bottom bracket on any bike. Certainly it's an inexpensive part. The labor was extra reasonable. $15. for each of us.
6 months agoWeren't you with us on that trip in Colorado where Jacinto had a clicking noise when he pedaled? He only went to the bike shop because it was right across the street. One of the plates of the chain was pulling off. They charged him $5. to take a link out. Saying hello and describing the problem used up more of the mechanic's time than that!
We've only had the best of service/price when visiting shops while touring.
