Thank you. I wish I had consulted you on that Seely Lake/Swan Lake section. I see you found lodging? For one night? That's the problem. So many places in tourist areas now want more than one night. I would change our Seely Lake night to match - except I've already prepaid above the bar. $168. I just sent the man an email tonight to remind him. I'm slightly concerned. I paid on January 18th. Jacinto says he thinks it should be a nice place, at that price. The last time we stayed above the bar was at the Hanna Hilton - https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/chevy/altamont-hanna-ut/

8 months agoThat would be a soul crushing number of reservations to cancel! Do you still have your map visible on RWGPS? What is the name?
8 months agoGoing from Wisdom to Ovando would be new roads to me, but getting to Wisdom would involve a lot of the Transam route. I like the route I have planned. Some recent developments, unfortunately things aren't shaping up favorably for me to do it this year - that's a real downer cause I have trained all year for it. Still a chance, but less than 50/50 as of some developments today. It may come down to a last minute decision, and I don't have any reservations made yet - I don't want to have to cancel them all like I did last year.
8 months agoI had to go back and look at my 2020 journal - I have a photo of the Chief Joseph Pass sign! Neither one of us saw it yesterday. For Lost Trail Pass, the closest I got was a sign for the ski area.
I think the only place our route crosses the TransAm is the short section from the top of the pass to Wisdom.
I was thinking about the border to border trip, and could it be altered to include the roads we've been cycling. I suppose it depends if you have a desire to go into Missoula. We don't. This route has been recommendable starting in Challis. But, it would be easiest to made the adjustment to the east from Wisdom to Ovando. Would that be new riding for you?
I don't remember it. The motel seemed new-ish when I stayed there.
8 months agoThe place really does look cute from the outside. Too bad it’s so poorly managed. On the other hand, that’s part what makes touring such a memorable adventure. 💪🏻
8 months agoGreat first day-Downhill with a tailwind and great sights along the way. Love all the photos.
8 months agoYou went over Lost Trail Pass at the point you connected with highway 43. On the RWGPS map (Google Hybrid mode), using the street level view, you can see the Chief Joseph Pass sign - it would have been on your left at mile 15.1 - you have been there before and would know where to find the sign, so has the sign been removed now? That's a bummer - I hate it when you do all the work to climb a pass and there's no sign at the summit - especially at a continental divide crossing.
8 months agoI stayed at the Nez Perce motel in 2015 on my Transam ride. The young lady who checked me in was about to do her laundry and told me to bring my dirty laundry by and she would include it - that was nice! I ate at the bar that night, and saw her and her husband in a separate room where they were having some sort of town meeting. Wisdom was a nice town, but yeah, the mosquitoes are tough on the cyclists who camp there. https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/buddy/day-56-sula-to-wisdom-mt-in-pursuit-of-wisdom-and-clean-air/
8 months agoYour experience illustrates why it's good to always have some "emergency" food with you on a bicycle tour. I love the part of Idaho you are traveling through right now. You always manage to find some interesting lodging.
8 months agoI remember those little blighters! Not fondly, but I remember them.
8 months agoNot sure if it ever got over the passes but two years ago the Moose fire was happening in that area.
Here's a reminder of how I spent my day riding much of that same route, starting from the Sula side of Lost Trail Pass:

No, no hay sleds. I have seen them before and know what they are.
This is a beautiful area to ride.
Great shot! Thanks
