We have commented on price comparisons several times this trip. Especially the added cost of the tipping customs.

I'm pretty sure Hwy 3 didn't have a shoulder when I pedaled it in 2007. Lots of things change over that many years.

People warned me about awful traffic on 3A, but I found that road to be delightfully quiet compared to 3. The hills give good views, but it was quite smoky when I pedaled it. Helicopters were constantly scooping water out of Kootenay Lake.

I'm surprised that you don't mind the traffic on Hwy 3, Crowsnest Highway. I planned to ride it all the way west to the Okanagan river, but turned south in Grand Forks to escape the traffic. No shoulder, mostly big trucks. Log trucks, livestock trucks, etc. Maybe the bad part I remember was mostly west of Castlegar, where Hwy 3 is the only highway. All the traffic was concentrated in on one road.

This makes the places we stayed in Spain and France thus year sound like bargains!

I think most female cyclists have a favourite p-stop on their usual rides.

Do you think it might be a group of environmentalists on a retreat? “Tree-huggers”

I don’t know if they’re good or bad, but Lily pads are gorgeous when blooming!

Correct.

They indicate that there is less movement in and out of the lake than lakes with no lily pads, but they are an important part of a lake ecosystem, harboring fish and turtle babies. The water is just as clean here as other lakes, most aquatic plants act as wonderful filters and shade givers. There always seems to be just the right amount of lily pads in a lake. As lakes fill in over time (which they do!) there is more sediment, more plants, and eventually you have a bog.
