Wow - what a beautiful bird!
Next time I hope it stops to pose for you.
How did you guys get here to Myanmar so fast?
5 years agoOh,I left the credit out! Thanks for keeping me honest, Angela. May I Suggest, by Susan Werner - one of our favorite songs.
5 years agoIve been enjoying the videos and I love the Spanish/Latin American music. This song was lovely as well, who was the musician?

5 years agoHave often thought that bike route planners should be required to state the parameters that guide their route choice. Things like, given a choice always take the hillier way, or, make sure to route around rather than through every place that might have services a cyclist would want, or, an ever favourite, even 50 metres on a slightly trafficked road is to be avoided in favour of a 10 km detour on a gravel singletrack over hills.
5 years agoWe’ve been thinking about the Gumbys quite a bit on this tour. Portugal is a place they’d both love, I think. They could bring the GBO along for a family reunion tour.
5 years agoGBO? GBO who?
5 years agoThat was my plan, actually. It was a shame the chain link fence got in the way. I could have scaled it of course but we’ve done our time staring at the wrong side of a fence on this tour.

5 years agoVery observant! I thought something looked familiar about that track.
5 years agoI'm loving this journal and Portugal.
5 years agoHoly crap! I'm glad you escaped the clutches of that bloodthirsty beast. When Jen and I encounter wildlife, I always recommend that she stays and distracts the animal while I run and get help.
Or, you could ride with our friend Gay, who can turn a slobbering pack of wild reservation dogs away with a simple "Got, you dogs! Go home or I'll ring your head off! Go on!"

Not sure if this is an answer, but it's interesting - from Cornell Lab of Ornithology:
5 years agoThe bill of the Northern Shoveler is big (about 2.5 inches long) and shaped like a shovel, but that odd-shaped bill also has about 110 fine projections (called lamellae) along the edges that act like a colander, filtering out tiny crustaceans, seeds, and aquatic invertebrates from the water.
