Well done to you both. The photos of the tour were exceptional. Your efforts, very explorer like. Big days on mountain bikes. Big climbs. Lovely scenery. Hovell and Hume would be pleased.
6 months agoThanks Joel. It’s one of the tours where there are easy route choices and challenging routes choices. We’ve tended to do the harder ones but tomorrow I’m taking an easy option on the Great Victoria Rail Trail.
Overall, it’s a MTB ride. It’d be slow going on a normal touring bike.
Sorry to hear of your enforced rest Graham. 🤞 it is brief. May you gain strength quickly.
6 months agoI'm enjoying the tour. It looks superb.
6 months agoLooks v pleasant. Well done both.
7 months agoMike I’ve had this particular bag for a few years. It’s only done one tour but has been used a lot for lugging groceries.
7 months agoHo.w long have you had the Carradice?
7 months agoI hope so Rich. It’s an experiment.
I know that about 50% of the route is too rough for my Thorn touring bike, but the other 50% will be sealed, so my off-road 29er tourer would be too slow.
The NORCO is a light MTB better suited to unloaded rides, but it should be ok with this set up.
And the SMART Sam tyre tread pattern is excellent for this type of mixed road surface tour.
I love it! That setup looks like it could handle some seriously bad roads.

Thanks for following the journey Joel. Yes the full ride, as detailed on the website, definitely needs a low geared, nobbly tyred bike with a very light load.
6 months agoOr it could be done in smaller sections as a series of 2-3 day rides to focus on one or two sections at a time. There’d be other to modify to suit different abilities and time frames.
It’s certainly an interesting concept for a cycle tour. A first for me. I learned a lot.
