The decision was a good one. No edit feature, unfortunately.

We started in Missoula once, and left our car at a motel by the airport for a modest fee. I had lobbied for a locale in East Missoula, but the motel didn't want a parked vehicle for that long. As we bicycled past, it didn't appear to be a good spot for extended parking. The motel's decision was a god one.

Going through twice, you will be able to refine your lodging choice!

Phillipsburg is a planned overnight. I think it has a historic B&B.

Ovando adds 2 days to the route, but also makes the start in Missoula instead of 34 miles east of Missoula. It also makes the first day of both tours near duplicate routes.

As always, I enjoyed this journal and look forward to reading about your 2025 tours. They are both appealing.

I'm happy to see Ovando made it into the route. I hope it lives up to my hype!

Are you planning to overnight in Phillipsburg? That certainly sounded like your sort of town to explore.

My perception was that Palouse Falls State Park deliberately maintains the gravel road in a washboarded condition to keep motorists under the 35 mph speed limit.

We took a detour last summer to see these falls. It was beautiful but the road to get there was very, very rough. We had pulled our trailer to the parking lot (no place to turn around) where we found that all of the shaking and bouncing had broken a piece off of our fresh water tank under the trailer. Water was leaking onto the ground and the tank was no longer usable.

Might be a scooper plane for firefighting?

It was fun following along. Since I've ridden in the area, I found myself looking at Google Earth to follow your route, and oftentimes I'd use the street view to locate some of the photos you took! Thanks for writing the journal.

"Blue Anchor is an odd name in a town that is very far from an ocean."

Concur with that. The Beaverhead River and Ruby River coalesce a bit south of Twin Bridges, and it’s a very popular fly fishing town; perhaps the Blue Anchor bar name is an attempt at luring the fishermen (pun intended). I recall from my Transam ride that lodging was expensive in Twin Bridges during fly fishing season - I rode on to Sheridan to secure a more reasonably priced place.
