I feel your pain about those things but I'm grateful that I didn't have hot weather. 82F was the warmest day of my tour. This was the only day that I wanted ice.

I feel your pain about no available ice and AC that doesn’t work properly. Oo to getting a bad meal on your birthday.

Perhaps you didn't bike across the Mississippi river because the path to the crossing has a big No Bicycles sign.

George (Buddy) Hall commented on Day 6: Rest day in Idaho Falls

"The 26 day High Desert Rivers tour will become a 13 day Snake River tour." You are wise to listen to your body and be flexible with your touring plans. And you still have a week to change your mind or fine tune your plans more.

The Temple certainly dominates the town landscape!

Glad you have a rest day, it's no fun to be sick on tour. Hopefully a day off will do some good and you'll feel better.

I could kick myself for not thinking of riding my bike across the headwaters when I was there. Kudos to you for not only thinking of it, but actually doing it too.

I agree, looking at the photos. But I didn't notice the clouds that much while on the road. They change gradually and I kind of just take them for granted. Seeing photos afterwards can change your perception!

West of the Cascade range the normal pattern is cloudy mornings and sunny afternoons. The inland northwest and northern Rocky mountains have the opposite pattern. Sunny mornings and cloudy afternoons.

A really beautiful gallery of sky and river shots.

I think it's kind of amusing that I might be the world's first non-Mormon touring cyclist to pedal to 16 LDS temples.

"They seemed kind of surprised that I could travel so long in the Mormon Belt and not be converted." Well, that got a real grin from me. And I know that they were genuinely surprised.

Looking again at the glorious picture, I see that the bike isn't loaded. I must have removed the panniers to improve my chances of getting across without getting stuck ingloriously in the middle of the river.
