Ha! Nice to know you thought of me! Really though, the scenery is so spectacular, there's not much need to go hunting for nature shots. I do appreciate your efforts. This is not the optimum time for seeing critters or plants down there. March through May is much better! Even monsoon season July-Sep. is better.

3 years agoWayne,
Speed was definitely discussed multiple times before and during our tour. I fully expected and encouraged her to ride ahead. She steadfastly maintained that her racing days are over and that I'm not as slow as I think.
She has 700 wheels, with 110 PSI typical, although she'd been inflating to 100 PSI recently. 60 is a long way from 100.
Didn't it drive Jan crazy to go at your pace? I think her tire would be fine at 60 psi as long as she avoided giant potholes.
3 years agoWayne,
I can see a real disadvantage here to living with someone who does all of the bicycle mechanic work, and to always doing supported tours with a mechanic. Jan was quite concerned before we left about having any sort of mechanical issue.
I specifically asked about tires. She said she held up her wheels to the camera while speaking to her husband on Zoom. Via Zoom, he declared the tires good. That's a difficult way of assessing tire quality.
We did share a room every night and rode close together every day. It was okay for four days. As much as I like to talk, as I also like to rest my voice!
It was an interesting experience, definitely not my typical tour.
Kelly
Bill,
Thank you - you might be horrified at how many times you were on my mind during the day, as I looked around for something to photograph for you!
Kelly
I've enjoyed following you our your 2 tours. I agree with you on touring with someone other than your husband. Even on this trip, I've been happy I brought my own bike so I could get some 'alone' time! You still should still do a journal of your Xmas trip - you never know what you'll see and do out there!
3 years agoWe love the Elgin loop as well and have ridden it several times. I agree that AZ needs more of these back roads! Unfortunately they are few and far between. Although we did discover some back roads around Wilcox that go through the agricultural areas near there.
3 years agoI remember taking a picture of this wagon last year when we rode this area in December!
3 years agoI enjoyed reading. Not exactly a match made in heaven. Did you share motel rooms every night? Did the tire look okay when you started?
3 years agoBeen a good tour! Thanks for playing around in AZ again and sharing the photos!
3 years agoWe’ve been through here twice. The first was unintentional, when we were trying to bike from Sonoita to Tombstone through Fort Huachuca and were turned back because as you know you can’t get a pass at the west gate: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/tucson16/to-tombstone/
The second time was last winter, on a day ride from an overnight in Sonoita: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/winterlude2020/in-sonoita-the-ride-to-elgin/.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we drive over there for a repeat this winter.
Could you send a link to your journal of the area? I’d like to read it.
3 years agoI’m glad you enjoyed the ride around Elgin. I love those back roads through there.
