Thank Sandy, sounds like your south island tour lovely.
3 years agoHi Brianna
Looking forward to following your journey from my armchair in NZ. I agree you have picked the best time to ride, the lack of camper vans and crazy tourists on the road will make your riding so much more pleasant. Late last year, mainly because I couldn’t go anywhere else, I cycled the length of our South Island, there was an obvious lack of traffic, so peaceful, minimal petrol tankers over taking me, no lines of campervans trying to squeeze past me on narrow winding roads. This was a ride I would have put on my retirement list but it worked out really well doing it when I did. So easy to stop and take pictures, even do U turns for something I’d missed, I’d never normally make a U turn on the main highway.
Go well,
Sandy
Hi Mike,
It might be tricky to fit into the schedule, but I'll consider it once I'm in Hamilton.
Thanks,
Brianna
Yer, your plotted route isn't the Main Road Willunga Hill but a secondary (and quieter) road a bit to the North-East (same hill though). Will be a great route - looking forward to following along with u.

Consider going from Hamilton via McArthur (a beautiful village) to Port Fairy, a pretty seaside town then taking the Rail Trail to Koroit and rejoining your original route. Hamilton to Port Fairy was a nice quiet road when we rode it about four years ago.

I didn't realize I was doing Willunga hill ! I guess thats the big hill on day 2 that tops off with an 11% gradiant. Before it was a just a big hill now its 'that' big hill, Cool! Walking is always an option. :-)
Yes Duckie will be coming along. She loved the Lazendar Trail.
Ditto to Frank's comment Brianna, you will be fine. Perfect timing too with Covid as u said. Route includes Willunga Hill I see, been 100 years since I've climbed that beast - mostly down hill from there so u should be able to just roll into Vic 😁😁.
Presume Duckie's going along for the ride!
Thanks :-)

Excellent start Brianna, well done. Trams were still operating in my time in Adelaide and that rail trail from Brighton was non existant - looks an awesome ride. McLaren Vale country is beautiful cycling.
