Yes I have a small solar panel that at least in theory will charge my phone or power bank as I ride. A solar panel big enough to charge the bike would be considerably bigger and cost in the order of $900, plus it would take a big chunk of the day to charge the bike. There is also the option of carrying a second battery, it's a similar cost and weight to solar. Saying all that people due do it , but not me.
3 years agoI have been following the dots for the last 6 days. Bad news from this is, I know when you visit the toilet.
Good news is today Iβm back at work and discover your blog so I do not need to go down to this detail. In that 6 days I imagined you doing it tough, fighting through the elements, dodging danger going where no woman has gone before.
But now I see the photos with coffee and donuts, smiling facing it looks more like an electric reclining arm chair grand tour :)
Great entertainment.
Rob.
Sleeping mat?
3 years agoDon't I recall a solar panel being involved in the gear? Or was it my imagination? Or is it too cloudy to do anything?
3 years agoAFAICR it is about 160 km on road between those two places, maybe more as you went into the Coorong so well done with your battery choice and your use thereof. Now make sure you have a full charge when you get to Lavers Hill!
Mike
Wow! Here in BC (Canada) the supposedly closed borders may mean fewer foreign tourists driving on the roads but last summer the roads (and any campgrounds that were open) were full of Canadian tourists. We didn't even attempt going anywhere on our bikes.
3 years agoNo, I wasn't able to charge between Meningie and Kingston. This was always a stress point in my planning, so I wasn't at all surprised when the battery ran out. I have a Bosch PowerPack 500 for reference.
The only place you could charge would be policeman's point if you booked a room there.
Did you manage to charge your battery at all between Meninge and Kingston?
3 years agoAnd hi viz which is good.
3 years agoIt was certainly posing for the portrait!
3 years agoJust thinking... IMHO the biggest challenges/spoilers when cycling are (in descending order):
1) traffic
2) gravel (but I have skinny tyres)
3) head winds
4) body aches
5) rain
So I'm right there with you! Sounds like you're managing all pretty well though!
Hi Marian, lovely to hear you support.
3 years agoWhat a welcoming surprise to catch up with a Scouting mate! Keep up the good work. Weβre all behind you- literally and figuratively π
3 years agoSo far so good! I remember taking my Joey mob cycling from Noarlunga to McLaren Vale along some great paths. They earned their badges that day- so did their parents π

Rob, lol. You know that Coffee and donuts fixed the worst nightmares, even the self created ones.
3 years agoI guess this means if my schedule slips you'll know why I'm not at work on the 10th π.
Glad you are enjoying the virtual rode too.
Note: for everyone else Rob is my boss, he's a good guy.
