At least it seems nothing too terribly awful happened on your trip. And I for one would love to do what you did! All is well and you enjoyed some very great riding and, learning and visiting. Here’s to the next one ;’-).
8 months agoKathleen, I enjoyed reading your journal and looking at your nice sketches. Do you remember when we met in Texas when we toured on the Southern Tier years ago?

You must be pretty excited about your upcoming trip to see the parents and more. Wishing you an empty seat next to you.
What a great tour this was - friends, family and pretty easy navigation! Other than the train connections and weather at the start, it looks like you had a lot of fun and managed to do it at just the perfect pace for yourself. I absolutely loved all the sketches, you are so talented! And to have a whole row to yourself on the plane home - what a way to top it off! I do the big jump over the Pacific soon and would feel fantastic if just the middle seat is not occupied :-)
8 months agoBah - money!
Guess we’ll have to apply for grants so everyone can get one.
It's just a matter of the price - a thousand or so more. Leider.

8 months agoOh jeez what a great time to have lived out here. If only ….
We moved out here just a few years ago from over the hill. The foundations of the time you lived here, though, are still around - farm, fish, and surf is the name of the game.
Thanks for following along.
Hi Kathleen... I've thoroughly enjoyed following along, even if I gave up cycling years ago. I lived in Half Moon Bay 1972-74, and worked in San Mateo. It was always such a relief to come over the hill at day's end and see that fog bank. I was on Willow Ave., where my duplex butted up against a farmer's artichoke fields. Beach access was free and the surf was audible at night. Now I see that those fields have been replaced by homes, clear out to the beach.

8 months agoAt least the “train travel” has some sense of style..

Great anecdote about how things can go wrong on a bike tour. As disappointed as you felt about getting dissed by your brother in the morning, missing the train, and missing your brother's surprise as a result, just think how disappointed he must have been.
8 months agoI really enjoyed connecting with you agian via your journal. Thank you.
