The human on wheels definitely gives this shot added dimension .. and spice!

Good plan! Back to the barefoot stream crossings ... when you're ready.

Thanks, Bob - both for identifying this and for pointing me to a reference I haven’t come across before.

Thanks, Polly. A covered cross! I’d never seen a structure like this, and now I see why.

The Gothic Oratoire Croix Ouverte is a triangular open chapel that shelters a Cross.

Built in the late 14th century, it is one of 4 remaining, all located in the south of France.

Legend has it that it replaces a modest chapel that temporarily sheltered the remains of King St. Louis who died of the plague off the coast of Tunis during the 8th Crusade.

It was listed Historical Monument in 1904.

Well done! I knew I could count on someone coming through. I was hoping for a bit more precision than that though.

A reasonable request, but I think we’ve exceeded what was strictly required this time. We’ll try to dial it down for a while.

Well, almost. Very happy non-campers, to be precise.

I vote for just enough adversity to keep Team Anderson on their toes and us readers on the edges of our seats.

I think the Garmin Gremlins were just messing with you.

They took it away, used it for a few adventures, and then quietly snuck it back.

Weirdo duck? Nothing in wiki images seems to fit. And nothing in wikipedia list of birds for France seems to fit. And nothing else seems to fit... Maybe a cross-breed, or something that blew in on a storm?

It's the 'Croix couverte de Beaucaire': Prof Wikipedia tells me that it's a C14th monument, perhaps marking a spot where the bones of St Louis rested en route to ... somewhere (that info not provided by wikipedia!)
